Secret Squirrel : Creative Power Couple

I am constantly fascinated by creative couples that form their own studios or branch out on their own. Being a creative myself, I find it hard to get people (mainly my boyfriend) to see things the way I do or to make them understand my various pet peeves (bad kerning, typeface abuse etc) so whenever I come across a couple who makes great design, I'm completely taken. How great is it that you can share ideas and create things that are a collective of you and your partner's creativeness? I think it's awesome. That's why I love Secret Squirrel. Bri and Andrew are the couple behind this amazing label that creates classic pieces that I would definitely own and wear everyday if I had all the money in the world. Few designers actually make me want everything from their collection, Secret Squirrel is one of them!

Bruton Stroube: Breakfast Interrupted

Recently came across this amazing video by Bruton Stroube, the most awesome people on the planet. They are creatives specialising in advertising, and this video is probably their best work IMO. Check it out! Flying bacon! The only time you can see pigs fly. Teehee. Also see their behind the scenes video below!

Paper Goodness: These Are Things

I'm a real sucker for paper and all things print. Even more when they are silkscreened. There's just that special feeling that I get when I smell fresh paper. I call it my designer's vice! I came across These Are Things from a friend on facebook (yeah, all my friends are equally print crazy designers...) and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT! Check out how amazing their silkscreened maps and posters are! If you must know I am also a poster freak. I dream of filling the walls of my house with framed letterpressed/silkscreened posters that I cannot afford. Hehe. But the couple from These Are Things have made theirs very affordable and I might just get these two featured below!

City Silhouettes by Jasper James

This amazing series of photographs by the talented Jasper James just leaves me speechless. I wish I had an eye for photography like that but unfortunately getting a C in darkroom processes has stayed with me for awhile. I'm planning to go photo hunting tomorrow in Chinatown, but let's just enjoy these for now.

Monki Magazine

Monki is a Swedish-based fashion brand that has spawned from famous sisters like Weekday and Cheap Monday. And guess what? They're owned by H&M! If all this name-dropping hasn't got you all excited, then maybe these pictures from the magazine will. I love this feature editorial! So amazingly kitsch and cheerful. I really hope Monki will hit Singapore shores soon, but then again it might have to be a long wait because H&M isn't even here yet :(

Cuppycake

My new favourite blog is Call Me Cupcake! Seriously, does anyone ever need a reason to look at pictures of food? Beautiful pictures too, might I add. Call Me Cupcake makes girls around the world swoon over her delicious cupcakes and recipes. She blogs in Swedish mainly, but thankfully there are English translations too! I just made red velvet cupcakes but now I feel like getting my kitchen messed up for some Pink Rainbow Cake...

Color Collective

So while browsing online at this ungodly hour, I found a hidden gem on the Internet. Color Collective is a little blog of awesomeness that archives beautiful pictures and also pulls a palette of colours off them and presents it to you in a neat little jpg. Similar to Colourlovers but cooler because you get to see a pretty picture showcasing the palette. I'm going crazy over it! Being a designer, I spend tons of time debating colour schemes or trying to recreate a look without an actual palette. Now I have a ton of them to look at all day. Time to create a folder on the desktop named Beautiful Palettes...

Less and More

Totally fascinated with this creation while Etsy-browsing the other day. I'm so glad I have a product designer as a boyfriend who can make things like this happen for me! Can't wait till I have a place of my own so I can decorate and go crazy with the ideas I have in my head right now.

In the Dark

 (images from Lonny)

Colours are overrated. Sometimes anyway. Take a look at these monochromatic interiors! I'm loving the idea of black bathroom walls...other than being so aesthetically pleasing, think of how much dirt and scum you can hide with all that black. And how less jarring it would be to turn on your bathroom lights in the morning when you're all groggy and half awake. I LOVE IT. Too bad my bathroom walls are all tiled...
